PIERRE BAL-BLANC COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION FOR A SINGLE BODY 2019 English edition ISBN: 978-2-918252-65-8 14 € + SHIPPING
Collective Exhibition for a Single Body is a project initiated by French curator Pierre Bal-Blanc in the context of documenta 14 in Athens. The book summarizes his research on how body, language and value intersect. Bal-Blanc considers gestures and body situations principally from conceptual artworks created in Eastern Europe in the 1970s and 80s. These gestures, which are meant to be interpreted and repeated, are assembled here in a score to be performed, hence blurring the boundaries between visual arts and choreography. Collective Exhibition for a Single Bodyis a template for a license that could frame how to value a score, a set of gestures. The book also documents how the score was performed in several public spaces: the low-cost supermarket that has taken over the space that used to host the Generali Foundation in Vienna; and a social service office in Leuven, Belgium (as part of the « Playground » festival).
